Privacy Policy
Preprint is an arXiv research reader for iPhone and iPad. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what Preprint does and does not do with your information. In short, Preprint does not collect personal information and does not require an account.
Information we do not collect
Preprint does not ask for your name, email, or any account credentials. We do not use analytics, advertising, or third party trackers. We do not build a profile of you and we do not sell or share data, because we do not collect it in the first place.
Data you create and where it lives
When you save papers, follow categories, create collections, or track reading progress, that information is stored on your device and in your private iCloud account using Apple CloudKit. It syncs across the devices signed in to your Apple ID. This data lives in your own iCloud space. The developer of Preprint cannot see it or access it. Your use of iCloud is also governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy.
Downloaded papers
PDF files you download for offline reading are stored only on your device. They are not uploaded to us or to any third party by Preprint.
Network requests to arXiv
To search for papers and download PDFs, Preprint sends requests directly from your device to arXiv at export.arxiv.org and arxiv.org. We do not run a server in between. arXiv may keep its own standard server logs, such as your IP address and the requests you make, under arXiv's own policy. Please review the arXiv privacy policy for details. Preprint is not affiliated with arXiv or Cornell University.
Children's privacy
Preprint does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app is suitable for a general audience.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Preprint after a change means you accept the updated policy.
